"I'm not an audiophile, but in my humble opinion, Samsung UN55B7000 is a great TV. The picture is stunning. My son and I just watch the World Series on it, and never once lost the ball in the picture due to slow frame refresh or the less-than-240 MHz rate of 120. Nor have I seen any of the issues referenced by others regarding the 8000 series and issues with "lighting from the corners". I pulled out a 65" Mitsubishi Diamond, and put this in the hole it created in our entertainment center. Even though it's 10" smaller, it's 1000% better. The only downside I see right now is that it's hard to turn the TV off now... I should be reading more books!"

"I took delivery of this product today, and it was connected very quickly and the universal remote was set up in a snap. The picture is truly amazing. as sharp and awesome as i have ever seen on any set anywhere. I took a Samsung 58 inch plasma that i had in the family room and moved it to another room, and put this one instead. The reason? The plasma is a wonderful set, but produced a lot of heat both on the screen and through the top vents. It was like a heater being on at all times the tv was on in the room. So we moved it to another room that gets less use. This Samsung UN55B8000 is the most incredible picture i have ever seen. I am watching a blu-ray DVD of Lord of the Rings and it is absolutely stunning. The 240hz makes a difference and the 5:1 ratio is incredible."

Overall this is an excellent tv. Is Samsung UN55B8500 expensive, yes. Does it have the best picture of any LCD LED TV available, yes. If you have the money this is a great tv. I use a Harmony One remote and it works flawlessly with this tv. PS3 games and blu-ray movies look incredible.

LED-backlit LCD television or LED TV is an LCD TV that uses LED backlighting. LED's are used for backlighting, instead of fluorescent lights. Light-emitting diode televisions (LED TVs) are LCD television sets that use LED as back light unit (BLU). There are two methods to accomplish this:

1)    LED edge lighting (Edge lit): In this method, LED lights are placed around the perimeter (sides) only. This allows for a slimmer TV design. With Edge-LED lighting they can be extremely slim. Current models on the market are just over 25mm thick.

2)    LED Backlight (Array lit): In this method, LED lights are placed in the form of an array (across the whole back of the display). Any of the lights can be turned off to correspond with the scene being displayed, and this is why it can project such an accurate picture.
